December 2020

December 1st Eli turned 15 years old. I cannot believe he is 15. On his birthday, we went to the DMV and got him his learner's permit. After his birthday, he drove us to school for several days and made other smaller trips, but he hasn't driven in a few days because it is Christmas break and we have basically stayed at home. Eli is smart, talented and athletic. He has all A's this semester and is taking 3 honors classes and is in the advanced math (geometry). We are very proud of him for how he stands up for his beliefs and his faith, regardless of what others are doing around him. He is always ready with a hug for his mama and he is a great big brother to Brady and Major. He likes to organize neighborhood football games and is always coaching or teaching someone some aspect of the game. He is a true joy to be around and I'm so excited to see what the future holds for him! Happy birthday, Eli! We love you!

Christmas break started out with a surprise - Bill tested positive for COVID-19. This means quarantining for our entire family for the next two weeks. He did feel very sick and had a fever and cough for several days, but overall, I know it wasn't as bad on him as it was on others. Now that we are at the end of those two weeks, he is getting better everyday and I am so thankful he is on the mend. He will be ready to go back to school on Monday, January 4th 2021.

As for the rest of Christmas, we were able to enjoy a lot of family time and a lot of gifts. We went and saw Santa at Bass Pro (which was a little sad because he was behind plexiglass as a protection, but tradition is tradition), we purchased milkshakes and went and looked at Christmas lights, we picked up breakfast from Waffle House and ate it at home on Christmas Eve, opened presents from brothers on Christmas Eve, watched the Polar Express and waited for Santa to come and then it was Christmas Day! The boys really did a great job saving their money and purchasing gifts people would really enjoy. It was fun watching them select something for each other and watching them enjoy not just getting gifts, but giving them as well. Christmas morning there were tons of presents from family members and from Santa - it was a great day!

Our last tradition of the year is our New Year's Eve beach day. It was a beautiful day at the beach where we swam, fished, made sand castles, and sat on the beach and enjoyed the sun and the day. This year, the boys talked me into letting them actually stay up until midnight and watch the ball drop in New York for the first time in their lives. We ate buffalo wings, played games, and watched movies until midnight, then counted down from 10 and toasted each other a Happy New Year with our glasses of milk. Overall, I am so thankful for this year. For all the memories made and the time spent together. Goodbye, 2020. Hello, 2021!
