September 2020

September saw the return of football to southwest Florida! Some areas in Florida will not have sports this year, but we will! Eli was the starting quarterback for the varsity football team and although the team's record was not what we wanted, Eli himself had quite a year, breaking 4 school records and making 2nd team all area playing two less games than normally is in a regular season. (Two schools had to cancel due to the virus, COVID-19, being found on the team.) Here are his stats: 120 completions for 1,940 yards and 18 total touchdowns. School records for single game yards passing (455), single game touchdown passes (5), single season yards and single season touchdown passes (17). Brady and Major served as water boys for the first couple of games of the season, and Brady was quarterback of the middle school team. Brady's coaches referred to him as "QB1". So cute.

Brady, unfortunately, was only able to play 1 and a quarter games this season. I have some pictures below from his first game, but in his second game, he broke his leg in the first play of the 2nd quarter. Poor kid. He was devastated. He was carried off the field by the other team's athletic trainer where I took him to the emergency room and it was confirmed he had a spiral fracture of his tibia. Not only would he be out for all of football season, but basketball season as well. We hope he will be ready for baseball season. This is his first broken bone, and the first one for our family. I felt so badly for him. He was a trooper and only started to get emotional when the doctor told him he couldn't play football anymore this season. He was in a cast for 8 weeks, then in a walking boot for another 6. He wouldn't be cast and boot free until December 18th. He is already talking about next year football. He can't wait to play again!

Major has found that he really enjoys drama and drama productions. He took part in an after school drama mini-camp with a small performance at the end. It was so cute watching him act and sing and dance! He really enjoyed himself and is already asking to participate in the next one that is offered.

In mid-September, I did something crazy with my friend, Marci Hendrix, who also teaches at our school. Because of the virus, plane tickets are pretty cheap right now, including purchasing tickets a day in advance! So we decided on a Thursday to go to Washington DC and be part of the national prayer walk around the national mall in DC on Saturday morning. We flew into Washington DC on Saturday morning, participated in the prayer walk, and flew back on Saturday evening. It was a whirlwind of a day, but so worth it! Thanks to Marci for being willing to do something crazy with me!
