May 2020

May - the end of a very unique and unprecedented school year. Brady turned 12 and we celebrated at home with doughnuts and presents and were even able to go out and play a round of miniature golf. By the middle of May, some businesses in Florida started to slowly reopen with reduced capacity. Restaurants could only have 25% capacity, as well as much of the entertainment industry. Movie theaters remain closed, and many have said it is the death of the movie theater as we know it. That new movies will go to online streaming platforms where you will pay to watch the movie from the comfort of your own home. Churches still must remain closed as you cannot gather with more than 50 people at this point. Our faculty did meet for the end of school meeting with what is being called now "social distancing" where you have to stay 6 feet from the nearest person and everyone wearing a mask to help slow the spread. I won the school's service award for my work transitioning the school to an online learning environment and my helping of everyone in the school community make this online transition. I was also promoted to the role of Director of Educational Technology, given an office, and will not be teaching any classes in the upcoming school year. My plan is to pursue my Master's degree in Educational Leadership in January 2021 and stay in administrative roles and leave the classroom. I am excited for my future as an administrator.

Ah, my Brady. I love this boy. He always has the best attitude and is so thankful. He was elected his classes' chaplain for his 7th grade year (he was also the chaplain for 5th and 6th grade), he still says he wants to be a preacher when he grows up. He is kind and intelligent and outgoing and has the best personality. Happy 12th birthday, big man!

One of the last pictures is of Eli's graduation certificate from the 8th grade. We couldn't have an in-person ceremony, so the principal drove to each 8th grader's house with a certificate and a balloon. So sweet! Congratulation, Eli! Now on to high school!

Happily, when school ended, we were still able to go to Lake Okeechobee for our Memorial Day end of school getaway! We only have a few pictures, but it was still a nice, relaxing getaway!
